Lassen Peak benefits law enforcement and society alike, providing for an efficient and effective search for concealed weapons to be conducted in a less-invasive, contact-free manner at a reasonably safe distance to minimize the potential for altercations or escalations to use-of-force.
Lassen Peak’s technology advancement allows for the legacy method of a hands-on pat-down for concealed weapons to be replaced or augmented with technology that is completely safe yet very effective at detecting concealed weapons – allowing for a touch-free and respectful encounter to be conducted at a reasonably safe distance.
Improving safety for both the officer and the individual by allowing officers to have improved situational awareness at a safe distance and have knowledge of when there is a weapon – and when there is not.
When officers are able to validate that a person does NOT have a weapon, they are afforded more time and options to prevent unnecessary escalation resulting in use-of-force.
Allowing for a touch-free encounter improves the experience for everyone making it safer, more dignified and mutually respectful, which can help foster an improved relationship between law enforcement and the community.
By eliminating the need for a contentious and invasive hands-on encounter, there is a better opportunity for de-escalation.
No image of the human body will ever be captured or created. Only objects of potential risk are imaged and presented on the screen.
The system captures absolutely no personally identifiable information (PII). Each scan record contains color video, radar imaging of non-human objects, time/date/location information, and user credentials.
Lassen Peak’s reporting will enable the officer to include information on the reason for the search to enable the law enforcement command staff, civilian oversight groups and others to ensure that these searches are being conducted in accordance with the 4th Amendment and the limited exception authorized under the Terry v Ohio (1968) ruling.
The Lassen Peak solution treats everyone equally, applying the same criteria and mechanisms for identifying weapons and removing any potential for bias that may exist based on a person’s location, perceived race or religion, gender, age or other criteria. And, Lassen Peak is also building in configurable alert notifications and reports to identify individual users that appear outside of acceptable agency norms and potentially using the technology in a disproportionate manner with any one group of people.
